In 2004, Center Stage Productions was founded on the belief that theatre should be accessible to everyone. That belief turned into the three principles that form our mission statement and that guide the work we do everyday:
● anyone who wants to perform can; we do not make cuts
● every request for tuition aid is granted
● to continue our long history of non-traditional casting that gives equal opportunity to every gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, race, and ethnicity
Over the past 17 years, CSP has built a thriving youth theatre program that has gone on to give back to the Escondido community in many ways. Our students have helped bring awareness to the arts through free performances at venues like the Escondido Street Fair and the San Diego County Fair. We’ve brought free arts entertainment to senior communities through partnerships with Interfaith (working in conjunction with their Senior Lunch Program) and Redwood Terrace.
Since 2013, CSP has been a Community Partner with Girl Scouts San Diego, providing discounted tickets and backstage experiences for Girl Scouts from all over the county. In addition, we’ve partnered with San Pasqual Academy to offer subsidized tuition to students who want to perform with us.
Center Stage Productions has long been a safe creative space for students from all different backgrounds - whether they come walking from Classical Academy High School just a few blocks away or driving from across the county. The relationships and experiences that kids form through their time with us stay with them for years and we cherish the opportunity to share the world of live theatre with youth who may not have been exposed to it otherwise.
Throughout our time as a performing arts organization, we’ve seen over and over again how important the arts are to our community. We are so privileged to be able to do the work that we do and we hope to continue to be active leaders in the Escondido arts community for years to come.
